The Egyptian Google Ads Reality
We audit Google Ads accounts every week. Egyptian businesses collectively waste tens of millions of pounds annually on campaigns that generate clicks but not customers. The frustrating part: in 90% of cases, the problems are the same three mistakes, in the same order.
These aren't obscure technical issues. They're fundamental misalignments that most account managers either don't see or don't want to tell clients about.
Mistake 1: Misaligned Search Intent
The most common failure mode: bidding on keywords that don't match what your buyer actually wants at the moment they're searching. Someone searching "how to design a logo" is in research mode. Someone searching "logo design company Cairo price" is in purchase mode. Most Egyptian advertisers run the same ads to both.
The fix: categorize your keywords by intent — informational, comparison, transactional. Write different ads for each category. Send each to a different landing page. Your transactional keywords should drive to a conversion page. Your informational keywords can drive to content that starts the relationship. Never mix them.
Mistake 2: A Broken Landing Page Experience
The average Google Ads landing page we audit in Egypt has: a 4-second load time on mobile, a headline that doesn't match the ad, a contact form that asks for 6+ fields, and no social proof above the fold. Any one of these kills conversions. All four together means your ad spend is disappearing into a broken funnel.
The fix protocol we run on every new account: reduce mobile load time to under 2 seconds (non-negotiable), match headline to the search query, remove all form fields except name and phone (or name and email), add at minimum one testimonial or trust signal above the fold, and make the CTA a phone number or WhatsApp link — not a generic "Submit" button.
Quick test: Open your landing page on mobile with a 4G connection. If you check your email or look away while it loads, your bounce rate is killing your conversion rate.Mistake 3: Wrong Bidding Strategy for the Stage
Account managers default to Target CPA or Maximize Conversions even on new accounts with zero conversion history. Google's algorithm needs data to optimize. With fewer than 30–50 conversions per month, automated bidding strategies actively hurt performance because the algorithm is optimizing for a signal that barely exists.
The fix: new accounts should run Manual CPC for the first 30–60 days, gathering real data. Only when you have statistically significant conversion volume should you introduce smart bidding. The impatience to automate too early is one of the most expensive habits in Egyptian digital marketing.
The 7-Day Quick-Audit Checklist
- Check Search Terms report — are you paying for irrelevant queries? Add negatives immediately.
- Check Quality Score for top keywords — anything below 5/10 needs ad copy and landing page review.
- Check mobile vs. desktop conversion rate — if mobile is converting at less than 50% of desktop, your mobile experience is broken.
- Check impression share — if it's below 40% and CPC is high, your budget allocation needs restructuring.
- Check ad schedule — are you spending budget at 3am when your target customer is asleep?
- Check your top-spending keywords against their conversion rate — often the biggest spend keyword has the lowest conversion rate.
- Check your landing page load speed in Google PageSpeed Insights — target above 70 on mobile.
